About

Indoor tennis at the Grange has a long history. Now, in 2016, more than 100 years since the “Tin Temple” was demolished, plans have been proposed to re-establish that famous and iconic facility — and to re-invigorate indoor tennis in Edinburgh.

TIN TEMPLE TENNIS TWO will be an all-new, all-weather sports hall built on the grounds of the historic Grange Club in Stockbridge, surely one of the most picturesque settings for a sports club in the UK.

Founded in 1832, The Grange Club is currently the home of Cricket Scotland as well as the Grange Cricket Club. There are four other constituent sports clubs — Men’s Hockey, Ladies Hockey, Squash… and Tennis.

The Grange Dyvours Lawn Tennis Club has eight outdoor tennis courts — five grass and three astroturf.  Not since 1902 has the club been able to offer indoor tennis as an option. If this proposed venture is to prove successful, a new chapter will be written in this club’s illustrious history.

The development of this idea — as well as the rich history which underpins it — will be documented on this blog site.
